How to get a account on the Deathrow Cluster!

First off, make sure that you want a account on the Deathrow Cluster. If you simply wish to play with OpenVMS for a few minutes, consider using our DEMO account. You get near full access to the system(s) (some network objects are restricted). To use the DEMO account, simply telnet or ssh to a node and login with the username DEMO , password USER. To find out how to connect to a node, see the listing of "Nodes Online:" on the left side of this page. Click on the node you're interested in. There is one thing we must stress......

OpenVMS is not a Unix/Linux/BSD derivative!

.... OpenVMS is very, very different than Unix type of operating systems! If you're looking for a Unix based shell account, it'd be wise to look elsewhere!

Also, before signing up for a account, please consider the following:

Do you want to use these machine for commercial reasons?
The Deathrow OpenVMS Cluster operates under the hobbyist program. If you intend to use the Deathrow Cluster resources for commercial reasons (for example: porting commercial code, or running a company web page), you will be removed. This would violate our hobbyist agreement/license, and we can't afford to let that happen.
Will you actually use this account?
There is nothing more frustrating than someone setting up a account that never gets used! If you're truly interested in OpenVMS, and looking for a loose-knit area to hang-out, then apply for account! Otherwise, don't bother! We setup the "DEMO" account for people to play.
Do you want to run a IRC Bot/relay/etc?
Go away. This isn't Unix, you'd have to port it, then we'd STOP/ID your process and kick you off. No IRC bots or relays.
Do you want to 'hack' from our machines?
While we encourage security testing of machines within our cluster, if you attempt to use the cluster for illegal activities outside, you'll be removed, and everyone you "targeted" will be contacted. We don't need the legal hassles because of your dumb actions. Otherwise hack away... Just let me know what you find! (For the VMS-Hack-FAQ)
Do you want to use this site for trading "warez" or "porn"?
Don't use the cluster for trading illegal materials. This includes pirated software, pornography, illegally obtained passwords, cracks, etc.

If you don't have any problem with the above, then sign up for a account! To do this, telnet or ssh to any Deathrow Cluster node and sign on with the username NEWUSER, password NEWUSER. For information about nodes, and how to connect to them, select a node on the left side of this page under "Online Nodes:".
